How to check Respirations
Checking Respirations
• Look for signs & symptoms of respiratory distress when the patient breathes (wheezing, gurgling or high-pitched noises)
• Check if the patient is complaining of shortness of breath or feeling dizzy
• Check if the patient complains of pain in the chest and numbness or tingling in the arms or legs
• Evaluate the breathing by placing a hand on the patient's abdomen or watch the chest rise and fall
• Count the patient's respiration for 30 seconds and multiply by two to determine the respiratory rate per minute
Determine whether the respiration may be described as fast, slow, labored, wheezing or gasping
